About me

I’ve been training, working and owning spaniels for over 30 years. Throughout that time I’ve competed in both working tests and field trials, achieving numerous awards in working tests with my dogs.

After competing in a handful of field trials, I decided the trialling scene wasn’t for me or my dogs. My real passion has always been producing practical working dogs and working them in the field. Since then, I’ve focused on training and working spaniels for gamekeepers, rough shooting and my own shooting days.

Over the years I’ve produced spaniels that hunt hard, cover ground with drive and style, and remain steady around game, flushes and the gun. I believe a good working spaniel should have plenty of natural ability and hunting drive whilst remaining biddable, controlled and reliable when it matters.

I’ve also had the privilege of assisting at both retriever and spaniel trials at the request of gamekeepers. This has included flushing game for retrievers during retriever trials and helping to recover wounded or unpicked birds at spaniel trials. These experiences have given me a deeper appreciation of what is required from a truly capable working dog in real shooting situations.

In addition to my work with spaniels, I have also helped many people train their retrievers for picking up and peg dogs, as well as assisting handlers preparing dogs for rough shooting. This wider experience has given me valuable insight into the different roles gundogs perform and the skills required for each discipline.

Today, my focus is on helping owners build a strong partnership with their dogs through clear, fair and effective training. Whether you have a new puppy, a pet dog needing obedience work, or a gundog destined for the shooting field, my aim is to help you get the very best from your dog.

Based in Nottinghamshire, I offer practical, honest training built on years of hands-on experience with working spaniels in the field.
